I had a good training ride with Don (resplendent in pink Condors CC uniform once again yesterday). Weather was great, but a bit of a headwind meant I was crème-cracker’d when I got home.

Stopping for elevenses at the Spire and Spoke, I ended up impressing myself with not one but two epic failures. After discovering my iPhone had fallen off its mount along the way, I proceeded to do the same in the pub’s gravel car park. Starting in the wrong gear, I executed the perfect slow-motion dismount while both feet were still clipped in – more Oliver Hardy than Sir Bradley Wiggins.

After completing the ride. I did manage to sleuth the return of my phone, reducing the epic-ness of my failure rate by 50%. The FindMy app turns out to be useful not only for tracking the kids after they fly out the door breakfast in hand, but also for locating your smart device when it goes off on a solo mission. Who’d have thought?

Nothing says thank you for lowering my “dad:personal item(phone, keys, wallet)” loss ratio more than a box of Ferrero Roche. I returned to the address of the family who found my phone. The young lady who opened the door to me once again was even more perturbed to find this ‘ambassador’ standing there, still Lycra-clad in Oddballs Foundation cycling gear but now holding a box of chocolates.

Thanks to The Oddballs Foundation for the colourful cycling shirt.

Content in the knowledge I had done my bit to prove karma is a thing, I went home for my post training cuppa.

  1. exciting day really. Popping to the pub with Jason soonish. Will have an extra pint to celebrate your reunited iPhone. Also an extra extra pint to celebrate my first ever ride out on a road bike.
