Join us for a Blooming Parkinson’s Garden Ride and Party
A Parkinson’s UK garden entitled “A Garden for Every Parkinson’s Journey”, designed by award winning gardener and BBC presenter Arit Anderson, is coming to Oxford. Arit has a very personal connection with Parkinson’s, her sister’s recent diagnosis inspiring the garden design which will start life on display at this years Chelsea Flower Show before being relocated to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
To raise awareness of the challenges faced by people with Parkinson’s and to promote the garden, The Balls to Parkinson’s Team will be taking part in The Blooming Parkinson’s Garden Ride, from London to Oxford, and then celebrating at The Blooming Parkinson’s Garden Party in Headington, on May 31st.
Find out more about these two fantastic events:
The Parkinson’s Garden will be more than just a garden. It’s a space for people with the condition to participate in its maintenance helping to improve their fine motor skills, take part in exercise and promote movement – overcoming stiffness, anxiety and freezing. The community as a whole will benefit from just being out in a garden space, especially those who can’t garden.
The Balls to Parkinson’s Cycle Team will be riding from London to Oxford on May 31st in support of the Parkinson’s UK Garden. The team comprises of 20 people, some who already know each other, some who don’t, some with Parkinson’s, some without the condition, some regular cyclists and others new to cycling this type of distance. The garden symbolizes the journey of living with Parkinson’s: the moments of adaptation, challenge, hope and connection – undoubtedly the cycling team will experience similar moments as they tackle the scenic but challenging 80 route that includes a climb over the Chilterns, following the same path of the garden as it is relocated to Oxford.
To celebrate the successful completion of the ride The Blooming Parkinson’s Garden Party will be held in the Headington Quarry Village Hall in the evening. Come along and join in with an evening of fun and live music, with all proceeds going to the University Hospitals Charity and Together Against LCH.
